Chapter 167
Owen's expression darkened slightly. He lowered his head, letting out a few cold laughs. “Is being withreally
that
unbearable?”
Hailey bit her lip, took a deep breath, and said softly, “Owen, | really can’t be with you. Please letgo. These
past two years... just consider it my fault, alright?”
She spoke in a resigned tone, almost as if negotiating with him.
Owen released her, his handsome, gentle face slowly freezing into an icy mask.
She was begging him... begging him to let her go...
Realizing this, Owen's expression darkened, a hint of violent fury surfacing beneath his cool demeanor.
Hailey stood up from his lap, sensing the shift in his emotions. She instinctively took a few steps back.
“Are you afraid of me?” Owen asked from where he sat, his eyes dark and intense, locking onto her.
“I'm not,” Hailey replied, her voice instinctively quiet.
Owen stood up and slowly advanced toward her.
Hailey instinctively held her breath and stepped back, but she was backed against the desk. With nowhere else
to retreat, she raised her hands to push against his broad shoulders. “Owen, calm down.”
“Why?” His voice was low, filled with confusion. “You still have feelings for me, Hailey. | can feel it.”
Hailey’s throat tightened, her breath coming in shallow gasps as her eyes began to redden. “Owen... I'm sorry...”
She still refused to give him the real reason.
Owen raised his hand, his long, pale fingers gently caressing Hailey’s face.
His gaze was dark, unreadable, as if lost in thought.
Owen thought to himself. ‘She really is a heartless woman."
She was truly planning to tell him nothing, using the excuse of not liking him to completely escape from him,
from his world.
How could a woman like her even exist?
“Leave,” he muttered, releasing her and turning his back to her as he slowly walked toward the floor-to-ceiling

“I'm not someone who likes to force people. Since you've made up your mind, | won't bother you again,” Owen's
voice beccold, distant, as if he were addressing a stranger.
Hailey stood there for a moment, her mind swirling, watching Owen's tall, slender figure. She slowly pressed her
lips. together.
She thought, ‘After | leave here today, maybe we really will becstrangers.’
At the thought, a sharp, piercing pain shot through her heart.
The pain drained the color from her face, beads of sweat forming on her forehead.

In her previous life, she had died with a heart full of hatred. But in this life, all she felt was worse than death.
The fate was truly playing a cruel joke on her.
Hailey lowered her head, silently sobbing.
She wanted so badly to go to him, to hug him, to say one more “I’m sorry.”
But now, she had lost the right to do that.

Hailey took a deep breath, fighting to keep her voice steady. “Goodbye.”
Owen didn’t respond, nor did he turn to look at her. It was as if he had already lost all patience and interest in
her.
Of course, He was the CEO of a huge company, raised in luxury, how could he lower himself to beg for a woman?
Everything he had done in the past was already the limit of his efforts.
But Hailey still hadn't had a change of heart.
She turned and slowly walked out of the office.
Richard was waiting outside.
He had thought that with Hailey coming to find the boss, they would resolve things and the ice between them
would melt.
But when he saw Hailey emerge with a neutral expression, Richard was stunned.
From the looks of it, it seemed like they hadn't made up.
“Miss Dalton, I'll escort you downstairs,” he offered as he stepped forward.
Hailey didn’t respond, aimlessly walking toward the elevator.
Richard pressed the button and, noticing her pale face, couldn't help but ask, “Miss Dalton, did things not work
out with the boss?”
Hailey lowered her gaze, her eyes blank, and after a few seconds, she spoke in a calm, detached tone. “We broke
up.”
Richard froze, unable to process this outcome.
Two years ago, when Hailey was “killed” in a car accident, Owen had been utterly shattered, unable to accept it.
Everyone had seen how devastated he was.
Now, two years later, she returned, and everyone expected that they would rekindle their sweet, loving
relationship.
But they broke up.
So suddenly, without any warning.
Richard couldn't understand.
He knew what Owen had done in recent days; he had been trying to force Hailey to cback. Although Richard
thought that method was wrong, he had to admit it had been the most effective.
But even after all that, this was the result?
Two years had passed, and Richard knew Owen hadn't changed his heart.

“Miss Dalton,” Richard began softly as the elevator descended, “Mr. Calhoun just wants to be with you. He really
loves you, For the past two years, he never believed you were really gone. He's had people searching for you all
over the world. Miss Dalton, why can’t you give Mr. Calhoun another chance?”
Hailey’s head lowered, and Richard's words sparked a fresh wave of sharp pain in her heart.
In this lifetime, losing Owen meant she might never find another man who cared about her so much.
“Maybe it’s just that fate has run its course,” Hailey whispered coldly, her voice distant and indifferent.
Richard fell silent, realizing he had no further words to say.
He watched Hailey’s calm, unmoving face, and for the first time, he understood her coldness and detachment.
So Hailey could be this heartless after all.
Hailey didn’t say anything more. When the elevator reached the first floor, she walked out of the building as if
nothing had happened.
Richard thought to himself, ‘No wonder the boss went to such extremes to get back at Hailey. If | were him, I'd
want revenge too."
Two years. Owen searched for her for two years.
And for her, he had becnothing.
Richard felt a pang of sympathy for Owen.
In September, the new school year began.
Hailey had studied literature abroad, and after returning, she continued in the sfield. Perhaps because of
her writing, she had a deep love for words.
It had been nearly two months since she returned to Wothaland. Finley had rushed back just in tto meet
Hailey before her classes started.
Raphael was still recovering from surgery, so he was a bit late.
Hailey and Finley had arranged to meet at a restaurant.
It had been a long tsince Finley had returned to Wothaland. As he stood on this familiar yet unfamiliar land,
he felt both nostalgic and strange.
Having flown all day, Finley didn’t look too well. He had been working relentlessly these past two years, and his
health had taken a toll.
He owed Hailey so much, and he hoped to make up for it by giving her the best he could in his remaining years.
Hailey went to pick him up from the airport, and the two of them went straight to the restaurant.
