Chapter 1492
Snowflakes drifted softly as Reece popped open an umbrella, doing his best to shield Sophie from the biting
wind. Once they were in the car, Sophie just leaned against the window, lost in her thoughts.
Over at the White family estate, Colby was slumped on the couch, not saying a word. Adler and Jenna had been
blowing up his phone all day, but he didn't bother to answer. As the evening shadows crept in, Jenna couldn't
take it anymore and barged through the front door. "Colby! You jerk!" she yelled, landing a punch on his cheek.
"Why aren't you picking up our calls? What's going on? Don't you dare say you don't know! Adler and | rushed
over from Devonport, and we're not here for excuses!" "Jenna, chill out..." Colby tried to interject.
"Chill out? Seriously?" Jenna shot back, eyes blazing. "Don't think | don't know. You knew all about his illness!"

Adler just stood there, silent, not daring to utter a word in the face of Jenna's fury. Jenna turned her attention
back to Colby, saying, "I've always thought of myself as your sister, maybe not by blood, but as part of the
Costello family. How could you keep something so huge from me? And hiding it from Sophie? Do you have any
idea what kind of chaos this could cause? Forget the business, your whole relationship could be at stake..."
"She's gone," Colby cut in, opening his hand to reveal a blood-stained ring. "She left with Reece."
Hearing that Sophie had left, Jenna fell silent. Even though she'd gotten to know Sophie later on, she understood

cautious with her heart. Colby's secret, in a way, was
as
coming out after tying the knot. No one can easily accept their partner having feelings for someone else after
marriage. Let alone accept a partner who can't even feel emotions.
Jenna turned, determined, "I'm going to bring Sophie back!" "Don't," Colby stopped her. "Let her be."

"Are you out of your mind? Your wife's leaving, and you're not going to do anything to win her back? What's
going through your head, Colby?" Jenna pressed on, knowing full well what women want. Sometimes it's just a
moment of anger, but what's really needed is an explanation. Sophie was never unreasonable. If Colby could just
lay it all out, clear the air, it might just take stfor things to settle down.
Colby asked, "Would you stay with someone who says they love you but feels nothing?"
"The medical verdict is clear-I'm incapable of love. So whatever | felt for her wasjust a charade." Even as Colby
spoke, he couldn't help but find it absurd. He should have know hiding his condition would lead to ruin. But he
had clung to a flicker of hope. And when the truth finally cout, it shattered their marriage.
"Colby, don't lose hope. Sophie isn't just any girl... what if she doesn't care? What if she understands?" Adler
tried to offer scomfort.
But Colby was already on his feet, saying, "A lie is a lie. She gaveso many chances, and | blew them all."
