Chapter 413

Chapter 413:

Should the woman prove to be Magician's student, Richard's journey would have merit.

Yet, observing Conroy’s obedient manner, Richard sensed ulterior motives. “Alright, what are you asking for?”

“Mr. Smith, your directness and acumen are admirable. | propose that we organize an international medical

conference here in Zhecrora, under your esteemed name, to cultivate our local medical experts. Additionally, we

aim to launch the new anti-cancer treatment developed in Ouiswell National Hospital,” Conroy said.

Richard's gaze hardened. Conroy's greed was unmistakable.

However, locating the Magician was critical for Richard.

The medical community worldwide was abuzz with news that Ouiswell National Hospital had developed a

groundbreaking anti-cancer drug, drawing international dignitaries and wealthy patients to Ouiswell. What

remained undisclosed was that this drug was still incomplete.

Additionally, the formulation of this drug had originated from notes that Magician had left with a resident of the

slums. Without locating Magician to overcthe remaining technical hurdles, the reputation of both Ouiswell

National Hospital and Richard himself could crumble disastrously.

Determined to prevent such a catastrophe, Richard decided to accept Conroy's terms.

“Agreed! But be warned, if this supposed student of Magician proves fraudulent, the consequences will fall on

you. | have means to ensure your dismissal from your position as the Mayor,” Richard cautioned.

Conroy could barely contain his delight. “Absolutely, she is genuinely Magician's student. You have nothing to

worry about!”

After instructing his secretary to show Richard and his team to their accommodations, Conroy made a secretive

phone call, his expression turning sly. “Richard’s here now. And | have only one request! Make sure this event is

magnificent. I'm counting on it to join the Congress. We must block Henrik’s faction from gaining any seats!”

Unbeknownst to both Richard and Conroy, the very Magician they discussed, Khloe, was at that moment

absorbed in a medical text, unaware of the machinations around her.

She sneezed, checked the time, and remembering her plans to shop with Tess the following day for some

relaxation, decided to go to bed early. But shortly after she drifted off to sleep, the door to her room opened

quietly.

Henrik entered the room as quietly as a shadow, barely making a sound. His years of perfecting combat skills

and lethal methods had brought him to such an extrthat he could approach Khloe’s bed without causing the

slightest disturbance. In one smooth motion, he gathered her into his arms, pulling her close.

He wasn’t the type to follow orders blindly. Just because Khloe had told him not to appear didn’t mean he would

let that stop him.

Seeing that Khloe was still peacefully asleep, Henrik’s lips curled into a soft smile, reminiscent of a devoted wolf.

He wrapped his arms around her and pulled her closer before falling asleep himself.

Khloe woke up the next morning to find it was already ten o'clock. She felt completely rested, as if she had

dreamed of a soft, snow-white wolf curling up beside her, using its fluffy fur as a pillow. It had been an incredibly

comforting sleep.

But the moment she realized it had only been a dream, a small pang of disappointment crept in—she half-wished

the wolf had been real and right there by her side.

After heading upstairs and then back down, she was surprised to see that Fiona had already set the breakfast

table, though Henrik seemed to be nowhere in sight.

She was taken off guard. She had expected Henrik to be waiting for her, especially after she had turned down

dinner with him the night before. Knowing his persistent nature, she had assumed he would want to make up for

i)

Perhaps something had cup with Henrik’s business. At the thought of it, she asked, “Fiona, did Henrik leave

this early? Is something happening?” In the past, she would never have asked about such confidential matters.

But after witnessing Henrik’s state the previous day, she couldn't help but feel a sense of responsibility and

compassion for him that went beyond their professional ties.
