Chapter 266 After that, Suzanne looked toward Alan and said, "Mr. Alvarez, letfeel your pulse." Alan, who had just sat down next to Suzanne, paused for a moment. Then, he glanced at her with a sincere look in his eyes. "Truth be told, I'm not feeling unwell. I'm really sorry for getting you to cover here today." Suzanne stared at Alan in surprise. She couldn't believe that he was being so frank with her.
She couldn't understand why he went through all that to summon her here. She furrowed her brows and asked, "Why did you getto chere?" Alan pondered in silence for a moment before answering, "So that the Yateses will know that I'm here to back you up." Feeling a little worried that Suzanne would get mad upon hearing these words, he fixed his eyes on her. After all, it was true that he did so out of his own initiative.
A look of surprise flashed across Suzanne's face. Clearly, she hadn't expected that to be why he summoned her. Alan was certainly worried that she'd be upset after being called to cover out of the blue.
She picked up the cup of coffee on the table and took a sip.

When the tcomes, the Yates family will have to think about it before making a move on you." If Suzanne hadn't pleaded with him over and over not to do anything, Alan would have already stepped in. Then, the Yates family wouldn't be oppressing Suzanne till now.
Alan let out a soft sigh. "Please don't be mad. I-I just want to repay you for saving my life. It won't be right forto sit back and watch." Suzanne curled her lips upward slightly. She didn't feel that there was anything wrong with what Alan did. On the contrary, she felt very thankful to him.
However, she was an independent woman. Throughout all these years, she felt that the only way for things to work out well was if she was powerful. There would never be any way out if she always relied on others.
Looking at Alan, she said in a casual tone, "Thank you. I appreciate your kind gesture. But I have to be the one to resolve my grievances with the Yates family." The issues between her and Henry were too messy. Things would get more complicated the more the number of people who intervened.
She didn't even want Austin to intervene, let alone Alan.
Through Alan's gaze at her, Suzanne could feel that he felt a little sorry for her. He frowned and argued, "But they're going overboard. You're just a feeble woman-" Suzanne chuckled and interrupted Alan, "I'm not feeble." Alan was taken aback. Indeed, Suzanne didn't look feeble at all. He just wanted to lend her a hand as he couldn't bear to see her like that.
Alan smiled. He nodded and said, "That was too thoughtless of me." Suzanne wasn't someone who needed others to back her up. Rather, she was an independent and prideful woman. She did not need to rely on anyone with power or on any man in order to survive.
She simply smiled and did not respond. She stared at him in silence.
Gazing at her, Alan inquired in a slightly concerned voice, "I saw the trending news about Jenson rescuing you. What was that about? Did Khalil Young attack you?" Initially, Alan wanted to meet with Suzanne immediately. But he kept holding himself back because he was afraid that it'd make her unhappy. Thus, he only ended up coming up with such an excuse today to get her to cover to his office.
Suzanne took another sip of her coffee. The coffee at Alan's workplace wasn't bad. It tasted really smooth.

Suzanne paused. After a brief thought, she decided to share with Alan and said, "He's my ex-boyfriend who's now together with Seline.
That's all."
Truth be told, it didn't matter even if Suzanne didn't clarify things in that way. However, she didn't want others NO to misunderstand her relationship with Jenson. That would make her feel revolted. She didn't care if outsiders thought so, but not people she knew well.
Alan was startled to find out that this was how Suzanne and ne and denson were related. Though, wasn't Seline Suzanne's half-sister? Alan furrowed his brows. Instinctively, he began to feel nauseous.
Suzanne, on the other hand, smiled slightly. She sniggered. "Did you think that I'd be satisfied if I didn't take back everything which they owed me?" She might have a cold personality, but there were certain boundaries that just shouldn't be crossed.
With that, Alan finally understood the situation.
What in the world did Suzanne have to face all on her own all these years?
