Chapter 255

In the cozy living room, Grandma Emily was nestled on the couch, casually flipping through a stack of photos.

She muttered to herself, "The Smith girl has such an elegant vibe, and the Johnson family's second daughter is

quite the looker. And the Walsh girl, just graduated with a master's from Harvard, she's got that scholarly charm.

| really like her."

She glanced up, flashing a warm smile at Joshua. "Joshua, why don't you take a look at these photos? Anyone

catch your eye?"

Joshua's gaze was distant, his thoughts clearly elsewhere. Just a moment ago in the garden, he'd caught a

glimpse of Allie. She looked so pale, her lips almost white. Was she sick?

"Joshua," Grandma Emily called out, her voice a notch louder, the smile slipping from her face. "I'm talking to

you. What's on your mind?"

Joshua snapped back to the present, looking up. "What?"

Grandma Emily put the photos aside, a hint of annoyance in her expression. She adjusted her silk shawl,

speaking in a measured tone, "Faith from the Walsh family just wrapped up her master's. | met her the other

day; she's gentle and quite lovely. You and your mom should drop by the Walshes the day after tomorrow. Spend

stwith Faith."

Joshua sat on the couch, shadows flitting across his eyes. "I don't have time."

Grandma Emily wasn't having it, frowning as she shot him a stern look. "You've been working hard all year. Take

a break. Be a good sport and visit the Walsh family with your mom."

Lillian felt a twinge of unease at the matchmaking suggestion. She finally got rid of Allison, was Grandma really

in such a rush to set up her brother again? Hadn't it just been a few days since the engagement ended?

Lillian snuggled up to the old lady, softening her voice, "Grandma, it's only been a short while since my brother

ended things with the Owens family. If he starts seeing the Walsh girl now, people will start talking."

Megan chimed in, supporting her, "Exactly, Grandma. It's not like Joshua is short on admirers. Every debutante in

Oak Lake would jump at the chance to marry him. You really don't need to worry."

Grandma Emily glanced at Joshua, clearly displeased. "It's not about him finding someone. I'm worried he's still

hung up on someone he shouldn't be thinking about."

Megan raised an eyebrow, her eyes darting between Grandma Emily and Joshua. Wow, Grandma Emily didn't

approve of Joshua and his girlfriend being together?

Why not? Allison cfrom a good family, was beautiful, and had a great personality. What more could

Grandma want?

Joshua's lips were a firm line. "Grandma, I'm going to the study to check on Grandpa."

With that, Joshua stood up.

"Wait, listen to what I'm saying. Stop running away. You've ended the engagement, so stop thinking about that

girl. The girls from the Walsh and Smith families are just as good, if not better."

Joshua paused and turned back, a dark humor in his eyes, a smirk playing at his lips. "If you like them so much,

why not bring them all home? I'm not interested in any of them."

Megan discreetly gave a thumbs-up, her gaze full of admiration. That's my cousin, bold as ever.

Grandma Emily was taken aback, her expression stiffening in disbelief. "Do you even hear yourself? You never

used to speak to your elders like this. What's gotten into you?"

Joshua's tone was lazily defiant, "Grandma, I'd suggest you worry less about my affairs. Your heart's not in the

best shape. You should take care of yourself."

Grandma Emily's chest heaved with frustration, her breathing uneven. "Joshua, you never used to talk back to

Grandma like this. Has that Allisonbeen filling your head with nonsense again? Every tt involves her, you

seem like a different person."
