Chapter 253
By the tAllison got back from Southern Ridge, it was already late January. The law firm had given everyone a
well-deserved break.
The day she flew back, Allison caught a nasty flu at the airport. After a stint in the hospital for IV treatment, she
found herself holed up in bed, with her housekeeper, Shannon, bringing her meals.
The day before Saturday, Shannon, as usual, brought lunch to Allison's room. Allison coughed a couple of times,
reaching for a tissue to dab at her nose. "Shannon, you should head hand spend the weekend with family."
Shannon paused, looking uncertain. "But Allie, you're still under the weather. Who's going to look after you if |
head out?"
"It's just a little cold, nothing to worry about," Allison reassured her.
Shannon suggested, "How about | take you back to the Owens family home? I'd feel better knowing you're with
your folks."
Javier had called a few days back, asking when she'd be back. Allison had planned to head has soon as the

spreading the virus. So, she decided to stay put.
"I'll head back once I'm better," Allison said.
Shannon wasn't convinced. "So, you're just going to be here alone? Why don't you chwith my family?"
Allison shook her head. "Shannon, remember Paige at home? She's old and frail. What if | pass the flu to her?"
That clicked for Shannon. An elderly person like Paige could be in serious trouble with the flu. She scratched her
head, "well..."
"I'll be fine, | can manage on my own."
"Alright then."
After lunch, Shannon did a deep clean, making sure every corner of the rooms and the living room was spotless.
She even hit the supermarket to stock up on groceries.
With everything sorted, Shannon popped into Allison's room. "Allie, I've stocked up for the holidays. There's fruit
in the fridge and sof your favorite snacks on the coffee table."
Allison lay in bed, her head just peeking out from under the covers. "Thanks for everything, Shannon."
"I'm off now. Callif you need anything."
"Will do."
Even as Shannon left the neighborhood, she couldn't shake off the worry about Allison. She pulled out her phone
and called Joshua.
"Mr. Fisher, Allie's been under the weather. She's been stuck in bed for two days since coming back from the
hospital. She toldto go home, but I'm uneasy about leaving her alone."
Joshua felt a pang of concern. "What happened to her?"
Shannon explained, "She seems to have caught the flu at the airport on her trip. She got sick as soon as she
returned."
"l see."
After hanging up, Joshua immediately called George to let him know about Allison's condition and asked if his

When Olivia heard Allison was sick, she wasted no treaching out. "Allie, why didn't you tellyou were
sick? Are you alone at hnow?"
Allison, her voice raspy from the cold, replied from under her blankets, "Yeah, it's just a cold. I'm almost better."
"Mind if | drop by? Is that alright?"
"It's okay, Olivia. | went to the
hospital a couple of days ago for an IV, and the doctor gavesmeds. I've been taking them for two days,
and I'm nearly better now. | just took my meds and was about to nap, I'll probably be fine after srest."
"Your voice sounds so croaky; it doesn't seem like you're almost better. Olivia's concern was clear. "I'll bring the
family doctor over to check on you."
Allison insisted, "Really, it's not necessary."
"Allie, it's no trouble."
An hour later, Olivia rang Allison's doorbell. Soon, there were the soft, shuffling footsteps from inside.
Allison opened the door, her steps unsteady and weak.
