Chapter 249
They were at the restaurant, tucked away in a swanky private room Eric had booked. The space was perfect for a
larger gathering, with a table that could easily seat ten, even though there were just five of them.
Eric pulled out a chair for Joshua and gave a slight bow, gesturing for him to sit. "Mr. Fisher, your seat," he said.
Joshua was used to people trying to curry favor. He slid into the chair without a second thought. But for Allison,
seeing how people treated the CEO of Fisher Corporation was a new experience. Here was a man who wore
aloofness like a second skin, his demeanor icy and distant, a stark contrast to the warm, apron- clad chef she'd
known him to be in private moments.
Mills took up the seat on Joshua's right side as soon as he sat down. Eric, taking care not to overstep boundaries,
chose a spot to Joshua's left, leaving a seat empty between them. It's close enough for business talk, but not too

Pierce settled in next to Eric. Allison, on the other hand, picked the chair furthest from Joshua, directly across
from him. Joshua leaned back, his eyes cool and assessing as they swept over Allison, a hint of disappointment
flitting across his face. Mills caught this and sighed internally. What a tangled pair.
Once everyone was settled, Eric nudged the menu over to Joshua. "Mr. Fisher, please," he prompted.
Joshua casually glanced through it, rattling off a few dishes before handing it back. Eric added a few more meaty
options to the order.
Allison kept her gaze downcast, refusing to meet Joshua's eyes. Instead, she focused on the glass, her mind
wandering. The dishes he ordered were all the ones she loved.
A mix of frustration and confusion bubbled up inside her. They were broken up, yet here he was, inviting her to
dinner and ordering her favorites. Was he trying to play the role of the devoted ex?
With Eric and Pierce around, she couldn't just get up and leave, though staying put felt suffocating. She couldn't
get Joshua's intention.
He made small talk with those around him, yet his gaze continually drifted to her. She sat quietly, like a little
quail with her head bowed, not even touching her phone. Joshua had to resist the urge to reach over, tousle her
hair, or wrap her in a comforting hug.
When the food arrived, Allison kept her focus on eating. She was starving. After running into Joshua and Megan
at that flight, she's too upset to get any food. Besides, she had missed breakfast before rushing to play tennis
that morning. Her stomach was empty. She wasn't interested in the men's conversation, instead concentrating
on her meal.

Meanwhile, Joshua agreed to a collaboration with Infinique Ventures, promising to handle contract details soon.
Eric was. thrilled celebrating with a few drinks. As the alcohol took effect, he relaxed, launching into tales of his
rise to success, talking animatedly.
While Eric and Pierce were engrossed in their drinks and
conversation, they failed to t
Joshua's subtle actions. His
attention was on Allison, and
quietly spun the glass turntable to ensure her favorite dishes landed in front of her. Mills, however, saw it all.
