Chapter 199

Shawn reached out to Jayden. "Lethave a look."

Jayden handed over the phone without a word. Shawn held onto it tightly, watching the birthday video on repeat,

tears streaming down his face

uncontrollably.

Grant's face was like thunder. "Seeing you like this just boils my blood! How could you be so weak!"

Cindy pulled at his arm. "Seriously, you're just going to make it worse! What do you mean, 'weak?' Didn't our son

pull in an investment for the company? If it hadn't been for Shawn, we'd have been bankrupt ages ago!"

Grant clamped his mouth shut, casting a long, hard look at Shawn before turning on his heel and leaving the

room.

Kate couldn't handle watching Shawn obsessively replay Allison's video anymore and decided she needed to

leave, too.

"Son, forget her. I'll find someone better for you," Cindy said, wiping her tears. Her voice was thick with emotion.

Colt sighed deeply, "Shawn, there's a saying, plenty of fish in the sea. Why hang yourself on one tree? | can find

whatever kind of girls you're into."

Shawn stayed silent, eyes glued to the video.

Jayden shook his head with a sigh. "Let's just give him sspace."

"No way!" Cindy insisted, "I can't leave him alone again. What if he tries to hurt himself again?"

Peyton's bone marrow transplant went off without a hitch, no signs of rejection. Her life was saved, and Allison

could finally focus on other things.

She'd been swamped with prepping case materials and running back and forth to court hearings.

Allison knew about Shawn's spiral into despair, and how he'd tried to take his own life, which made her avoid

staying at the Lakeside Residences apartment.

Joshua had found her a new townhouse, just a few miles from the law firm, making for an easy commute.

On Saturday, Allison hired a housekeeper to help pack and called in a moving company.

As the last suitcase was being carried out, Shawn stepped off the elevator.

He looked like a ghost-pale, with sunken eyes and shadows under them. He appeared worn out and much

thinner.

Shawn stopped, watching the movers take Allison's things. His eyes were full of sadness as he stared at her.

"Are you moving?"

Allison just nodded, not saying a word. She stepped into the elevator, and as she brushed past Shawn, he

grabbed her wrist.

"Allison, please don't go." Shawn's voice was filled with desperation his emotions all over the place. "I swear |

won't bother you again. Just don't move away, okay? | just want to be near you by your side."

Allison's eyes fell to his hand, her voice icy. "Let go."

Shawn didn't budge.

Allison tried to pull free, but

Shawn's grip tightened.

"Shawn, you're hurting me!"

Allison cried out, and Shawn released her like he'd touched something hot.

Guilt flashed across his face. "I'm sorry, Allison. | didn't mean to. I just... | just don't want you to leave."

Allison rubbed her reddened wrist. She said in a flat tone, "I've made it clear. There's no going back for us, and

we can't start over. You don't need to do these things to convince yourself."

Allison took a couple of steps forward, then paused, turning to meet Shawn's eyes seriously. "I heard you tried to

end your life a few days ago, Shawn. If you're that

extreme, I'll only be relieved to be away from you, not moved by your so-called love."

She continued, "Don't ever try that again. | don't want a relationship that comes with a death wish."

With those words, Allison followed the movers into the elevator, leaving Shawn behind.
