Chapter 197

After Shawn got back from Harper's Grove, he was hit with a severe bout of depression and ended up in the

hospital. Lots of folks cby to check on him, but not Allison.

Every tthe door to his room creaked open, Shawn would hold his breath, eyes glued to the door, hoping it

was her. But each time, it wasn't, and he'd just slump back, disappointed. From morning till night, he waited.

Still, the one person he longed to see never showed up. His heart twisted painfully as he started to believe

Allison wasn't coming back.

‘Allison, what's the point of doing any of this without you?' he thought.

One evening, Cindy brought Shawn his dinner and showed up with a nurse. The moment she walked in, she let

out a scream, dropping the food and rushing over. "Shawn!" Cindy cried, grabbing his arm. "Don't do this! Don't

scarelike that!"

Just before she cin, she saw Shawn with a fruit knife, trying to cut his wrist. Tears streamed down her face.

"Why are you doing this, you silly boy? What's got you so upset? Why would you want to putthrough this?"

she sobbed.

Blood had soaked the sheets. The nasty cut on Shawn's wrist was bleeding heavily. He just stared blankly, not

hearing a word Cindy said. All he could think about was how Allison didn't want him anymore and would never

cback. The pain was crushing, making him feel like life had lost all meaning.

"It hurts so much, Allison. My heart can't take it," he thought.

The nurse was panicking and ran out yelling for help. Medics rushed in, and Shawn was whisked off to the ER.

Cindy was left in the hallway, crying her heart out. "Why, Shawn? Why would you do something so stupid?"

Meanwhile, Allison had just left another hospital. It was freezing outside, five

below zero. She climbed into her car, cranked up the heater, and saw an unknown number flashing on her

phone.

"Hello?" she answered.

"Allison, please, you have to cto

pleated.

Allison paused, taken aback. "What do you mean? He tried to commit suicide?"

Allison couldn't wrap her head around it. She couldn't link Shawn with that word- suicide. He just didn't seem the

type.

Cindy was sobbing so hard she could barely breathe. "Did Shawn see you last night?" she asked, trying to calm

down.

"Yes," Allison replied.

The sobbing picked up again. "He passed out in the snow last night. When | went to see him today, |

Why would he do this?" Cindy asked.

Allison frowned, "What could | possibly have done to make him think that way?"

Cindy, still crying, said, "I didn't know you were from the Owens family before. I'll admit, | was a snob, and

looked down on you. I'm sorry. I'm begging you, please csee

Shawn. The doctors did their best to

save him, but he's struggling to

wake up. Can you help talk ssense into him?"

"Sorry, that's not my problem," Allison replied.

Cindy's frustration boiled over. "How can you be so cold, Allison? Don't you have

a heart? Shawn tried to end his life for you, and you won't even visit him?"

Allison let out a dry laugh. "Cold? If that's what you think of me, there's nothing | can do about it." After wrapping

up her conversation, she hung up on Cindy without a second thought.
