Chapter 183
When Allison finally stirred awake, it was early afternoon, around one o'clock. The space in the bed beside her
was empty, a clear sign that Joshua had been up for quite a while. She ran a hand through her hair, tossed the
covers aside, and got ready to start her day.
Last night, Joshua had slipped into bed with a promise to just hold her, nothing more. But as the night went on,
those intentions gave way to something much more passionate.
As she stepped out of the bedroom, she spotted Joshua lounging on the couch in the living room with one leg
casually draped over the other and his laptop resting on his knee. There was something undeniably captivating
about a man lost in his work.
The snowfall had ceased, leaving behind a serene winter landscape. Sunlight streamed softly through the

The room was cozy with the heater on, and Joshua, in his black shirt buttoned up to the top, looked every bit the
picture of focus and restraint. His fingers were flying over the keyboard with ease. Only Allison knew how those
sfingers had unbuttoned her blouse last night, drawing her into a whirlwind of desire.
She couldn't help but be drawn in, watching him so absorbed in work-a stark contrast to the passionate man
she'd been with just hours before.
Sensing her gaze, Joshua looked up. His once-steely expression softened and a warm smile spread across his
face. "Hey, Allie, you're up?"
With a soft "Mm-hmm," Allison joined him on the couch, tucking her legs beneath her as she peered over at his
laptop screen.
"Grandfather's officially passed the reins of the company to me," Joshua said gently. "It's been pretty hectic."
Allison was taken aback. She thought Ben was still at the helm of Fisher Corporation. But she knew better than to
delve into the family's internal matters.
She was surprised Joshua was sharing this with her. "That whole mess with Sue ties back to my dad's illegitimate
child," he continued.
Joshua kept his eyes on the screen, his voice steady, as if he were talking about the weather.
Allison's eyes widened. "Illegitimate child?"
Joshua's hands paused, a flicker of sadness crossing his eyes-an emotion she'd never seen in him before.
He spoke softly, "Over twenty years ago, while my mom was pregnant with me, my dad cheated. When she was
recovering post-birth, the other woman showed up with a maternity report trying to edge her way into the family

"My grandparents pushed my dad to abandon that child, but he was too attached to the other woman to go
through with it. He pretended to agree, but secretly sent her abroad."
Allison was stunned into silence, unaware that such a scandal had ever rocked
the Fisher family. They must have kept it buried deep.
Joshua went on, "Truth is, my dad's
heart belonged to her. But they were never meant to be. My grandmother
loathed women who tore families apart, and my grandfather, a man of integrity, would never let such a woman
disgrace our family name."
