Chapter 171
Allison couldn't even entertain the thought. Her heart felt like it was stuck in her throat, and her fingers had the
slightest tremor. No way. Joshua wouldn't do something like this! He had always said she was the only one for
him. But how on earth could she explain the recording Shawn just played?
Allison's mind was a tangled mess. Shawn stayed quiet for a moment, giving her all the tin the world to stew
in her thoughts. After a bit, he spoke up again, "Sue kidnapped your sister and tried to kill you. Joshua took a
knife for you; she nearly took him out! With everything Sue's pulled, there's no way the Fisher family should've
let her slip. But think about it. She was already in police custody. So why did someone bust her out the moment
she said she was pregnant?"

Allison knitted her brows, her lips clamped shut in silence. "Why don't you take a guess—whose baby is Sue
carrying?" Shawn's words struck like a lightning bolt. Allison's body trembled uncontrollably from the shock.
"Shut up!" she snapped, her emotions spilling over as she glared at Shawn. "Stop spewing lies and stirring the
pot! Joshua isn't like that! He's not like you! Just because your mind's in the gutter doesn't mean everyone else's
is!"
A flicker of hurt crossed Shawn's brown eyes, a bitter taste welling inside him. Was Joshua really that flawless in
her eyes? And was he really that awful? Shawn swallowed his bitterness and put on a laid-back facade, a small
smile playing on his lips. "I'm only telling the truth, Allison. You're putting too much faith in Joshua. If there's
nothing shady going on, why would he keep you in the dark?"
"Get lost!" Allison spat, her anger simmering.
Shawn shrugged, chuckling softly, "Joshua's with Sue right now. Why not call him and see for yourself?"
"Quit trying to mess things up between us!" Allison shoved Shawn hard, turning to head back inside. Shawn
caught her wrist, pulling her back outside, making her almost lose her balance. He wrapped an arm around her
waist, leaning in to breathe in her scent, a look of longing on his face. "Allison, leave him. Cback to me."
Allison swiftly kneed Shawn in the stomach. He groaned and let her go. Without missing a beat, she slapped him
hard across the face, the sound ringing through the air. Her eyes blazed with fury as she said, "Shawn, stay away
from me! You're not worth it!
Shawn's head turned slightly from the impact. He looked straight at her, his eyes a little red. The slap mark was

Allison let out a sharp laugh, her eyes filled with scorn. "Do I really need to explain? Ha, you've ruined us. We can
never go back to how things were."
She lifted her chin, looking at him with defiance. "A guy with no self-respect is just rotten, and | will never go
back to an old flame!"
With that, she didn't give Shawn a chance to respond, turned and slammed the door shut with a resounding
“bang.”
Shawn stood outside, staring at the closed door, his dark eyes filled with pain. "Because you've ruined us. We
can never go back to how things were." Her words were razor-sharp, stabbing at his heart, leaving it shredded
and bleeding.
