Chapter 168

After exchanging contact info, London awkwardly opened a food deliveryon his phone with his left hand. His

right hand was completely gone and swathed in white bandages.

Allison glanced over and said, "Need a hand with that?"

London offered an embarrassed smile. "Thank you so much, Ms. Allison."

Taking his phone, Allison was momentarily taken aback by the screen. Every option was a meal priced under a

few bucks.

She checked out the app's interface. It was a budget meal service.

Allison never knew meals could be this cheap. Her brow knitted slightly. Meals this cheap couldn't even cover the

cost of the ingredients, could they? She could only imagine what went into them.

Seeing her hesitation, London asked, "What is it? Anything under a few dollars would do."

Allison handed the phone back. "I just remembered seeing someone selling ready-made meals downstairs at the

hospital for the sprice. | can grab one for you. It'll be quicker than delivery, and you'll eat sooner."

"Really? Isn't that a hassle for you?"

Allison shook her head. "Not at all, it's just downstairs. Hang tight."

She left the hospital and ducked into a nearby café.

Pulling out her phone, she sent a message to Joy.

Allison: [Has Peyton eaten lunch yet?]

Joy quickly replied: [Probably not. She cby around nine, and we haven't had tto eat.]

Allison: [Okay.]

Allison ordered three meals, all light and patient-friendly.

Suddenly, she thought of something and called for two caregivers.

She returned to the hospital with the packed meals, and found the caregivers waiting. One was a man, the other

a woman.

Allison handed one meal to the male caregiver. "This is for the patient in room 503, bed 4, on the fifth floor. His

name's London, and he'll be under your care."

The male caregiver nodded and took the meal. "Got it."

Allison gave the other two meals to the female caregiver. "These are for the patient in room 602, bed 3, on the

sixth floor."

With that sorted, Allison went to the payment window to settle the hospital and treatment fees for London and

Peyton.

When she left the hospital, she received a money transfer notification and a message from London.

London: [Ms. Allison, you're such a kind person. Thank you for helping my sister and me.]

London: [The nurse just told me

someone paid our outstanding fees; it was you, wasn't it? Thank you so much. I'll pay you back as soon as | get

my compensation from the factory.]

Allison's heart ached as she replied simply: [You're welcome.]

She didn't accept the transfer.

The biting wind teased through Allison's hair as she stood by the hospital's flower bed, trying to steady her

emotions.

Joy stood behind her, wiping tears,

her voice thick with emotion. "Ms. Allison, the hospital just issued another critical condition notice for Peyton.

The doctor said they still haven't found a compatible bone marrow donor. If they can't find one soon, Peyton...

she doesn't have much tleft... Why is life so cruel to her? She's such a sweet, kind girl, and she's only

eleven..."

Tears streamed down Joy's face as she sobbed uncontrollably.

Allison's eyes welled up too. She stood in the cold wind, her nose turning red from the chill, her heart heavy with

Peyton was only eleven, with not

much tleft. London had dropped out of school early to work and earn money for his sister. Now he was

disabled and unable to work He was only nineteen.

After a lengthy silence, Allison took out her phone and made a call.

"Please connectwith an expert in leukemia treatment. Also, arrange for a hospital transfer for a brother

and sister from Eastside Hospital on Main Street."
