Chapter 139

The mood in the air took a nosedive into frosty territory. Joshua's eyes sharpened, his usually composed face

now edged with irritation. "Lillian, | choose not to carry you. It has nothing to do with Allie. If | catch you

badmouthing her again, | won't to hold back."

Lillian's tears started flowing. "Joshua, I..."

Sabrina leaned in close to Allison, whispering, "Do you really think her ankle's actually twisted?"

"What are you getting at?"

Sabrina gave a cheeky grin. "Just watch."

"Ah! A snake! There's a snake!" Sabrina pointed tically behind Lillian, feigning panic.

Lillian sprang up like a jack-in-the-box, darting over to hide behind Joshua. "Ah! A snake! Joshua, help me!"

The crowd was stunned into silence, the scene hanging in the air like a paused movie. A gentle breeze ruffled the

branches, adding to the tension.

"Pfft—" Sabrina broke the silence with a burst of laughter. "Didn't you say you couldn't walk because of a twisted

ankle? You're jumping around just fine to me. What is this, skind of sympathy act?"

Once Lillian realized she'd been duped, her face contorted in anger for a split second before she composed

herself. Her expression turned stern, her voice laced with annoyance. "Sabrina, haven't you heard of adrenaline

kicking in when someone's scared?"

Sabrina laughed even harder. "Oh, Lillian, do you think we're all that stupid?"

Lillian, incensed, raised her voice. "Why did you lie? There was no snake!"

Sabrina chuckled, "Oh, it was there, just slithered away. But you were just faking it to get Joshua's attention,

weren't you?"

Caught red-handed, Lillian's expression wavered. She tugged on Joshua's sleeve, looking up at him with innocent

eyes. "Joshua, it wasn't like that."

Allison pieced it together—Lillian's injury was just a ploy to draw Joshua's attention. She stood by, observing,

waiting for Joshua's take on it.

Joshua's eyes darkened, his tone cool and collected. "Since your ankle's perfectly fine, you can walk on your

own. And don't pull this kind of stunt again. It's not clever."

Without waiting for a response, Joshua turned on his heel and walked off.

Lillian glared daggers at Sabrina, who responded with a playful tongue-out gesture, linking arms with Allison as

they walked away.

Lillian watched them leave with a dark, brooding look.

Just then, Maddie sidled up, watching Joshua and Allison's retreating figures with a smirk. Her

voice was dripping with sarcasm, "She hasn't even married to Joshua yet, and she's already acting like the lady

of the house. And her friend is not the Swanson family's real daughter. Who do they think they are? Don't worry,

Lillian, I've got a plan to handle her..."

Maddie leaned in, whispering her schinto Lillian's ear.

Lillian's eyes took on a cold, calculating glint. "That's a brilliant idea. Let's do it. If she messes with me, she'll

regret it."

As twilight descended, the group reached the mountaintop viewing platform. They started setting up tents and

photography gear, ready to capture the moment.

Shooting stars streaked across the sky, painting a breathtaking scene. Allison closed her eyes, making a wish

upon the meteor shower, while Joshua stood quietly beside her, watching.

To Joshua, the meteor shower was just a natural occurrence-tiny celestial bodies entering Earth's atmosphere,

colliding with air molecules, creating heat and light-a simple astronomical phenomenon.
