Chapter 144
Alexander's POV.
The evening air was crisp and inviting as | sat across from Sebastian at the most exclusive diner in the city. The
elite crowd hummed quietly around us, soft jazz playing in the background The faint clink of glasses and cutlery
filled the space, but my attention was entirely on my younger brother.
We were dressed for the occasion, Sebastian in a tailored charcoal suit andin navy blue. | swirled my wine
glass, the deep red liquid catching the dim, golden light.
“You're quiet tonight,” | said, leaning back in
my chair.
Sebastian shrugged, sipping his own glass of Bordeaux. “Just taking it all in. This place screams you, though.”
| chuckled. “And you hate it.”
“Not hate. More like... I'd never step foot in here on my own,” he replied, smirking.
Before | could respond, the sound of heels clicking on the polished floor madeglance toward the entrance.
And there she was. Christiana.
Tseemed to slow as she walked in, her figure graced by a sleek, emerald-green gown that hugged her
curves and flowed like liquid silk to the floor. Her hair was swept to one side, soft curls framing her flawless face.
The neckline of her dress dipped just enough to be elegant yet tantalizing, and the slit up one side revealed a
hint of her toned leg with every step.
Sebastian turned to see what-or rather, who-had stolen my attention. His jaw slackened, his eyes widening
slightly as they took her in.
“Wow,” he murmured under his breath, his usual composed demeanor momentarily shattered.
Pride swelled in my chest. | couldn't help but smirk. Of course, he was stunned. Christiana had that effect on
everyone, it felt different watching my brother, of all people, try to collect himself.
As she approached our table, her radiant smile grew, lighting up the entire room-or at least, my world.
“Evening, gentlemen,” she greeted warmly.
Sebastian and | stood as she reached us. | leaned in to hug her, inhaling the subtle floral scent of her perfume.
“You look stunning as always,” | whispered in her ear, pulling back just enough to press a kiss to her cheek. My
hand lingered on her waist. “I can’t wait to take this dress off you.”
Christiana laughed softly, her cheeks faintly pink. She playfully swatted my arm. “Not tonight, Alex.”
“We'll see,” | teased, earning a laugh that sent a ripple of warmth through me.
Turning, | gestured to Sebastian. “Christiana, meet my brother, Sebastian. Sebastian, this is Christiana.”
but
Her smile softened, and to my surprise, she pulled him into a hug. “It’s so wonderful to finally meet you,
Sebastian. Alex has toldso much about you.”
Sebastian stiffened for a second, clearly caught off guard, before he relaxed and hugged her back, a shy grin
spreading across his face. “It's nice to meet you too. In person, that is. I've seen your pictures, but... wow.”
Nbarked a laugh, clapping him on the back as Christiana pulled away, her cheeks coloring again. “Careful, Seb.
You're makinglook bad.”
Sebastian looked at me, then back at her, shaking his head with a sheepish smile. “Now | get why he can’t stop

you.”
Christiana’s laughter was like music. “You're too kind. But really, it’s lovely to meet you.”
We all sat back down, and the conversation flowed effortlessly. Christiana’s attention shifted to Sebastian. “So,
what do think of the city so far?”
“It's overwhelming,” he admitted, leaning back in his chair. “But in a good way. And Alex has been showing me
around, which helps.”
you
“That's good,” Christiana said. “Oh, the kids wantedto say hi. Ethan said to remind you to bring back that
toy car he left in your office.”
| chuckled, shaking my head. “That kid's memory is better than mine.”
Sebastian's face lit up. “How are they? Ethan and Emma, right?”
“Yes,” Christiana replied, her face softening. “They're doing great Ethan's still obsessed with cars, and Emma...
well, she’s been into drawing lately. She keeps making pictures for Alex to put in his office.”
“She’s a natural artist,” | added, smiling. “Not that I'm biased or anything.”
Sebastian laughed. “I'll have to meet them sometime. They sound like a handful, though.”
Christiana nodded, her eyes sparkling. “They are. But they're worth every second of it.”
The conversation continued, and | couldn't help but feel a sense of satisfaction as | watched Christiana and
Sebastian interact. She had this way of making everyone feel at ease, even my often-guarded brother.
Sebastian leaned back, glancing between us with a grin. “I have to say, Alex, you've outdone yourself. She's
incredible.”
| smirked, raising my glass. “I know.”
Christiana rolled her eyes but smiled, reaching for her own glass. “And here | thought you were bringinghere
to flatter me.”
“Always,” | said, locking eyes with her.
As the evening went on, | couldn’t shake the feeling that this moment, here with Christiana and Sebastian, was
the closest I'd felt to contentment in years. She was my world, and tonight, she shone brighter than ever.
The conversation flowed smoothly as the waiter approached with the first course. Christiana, as always, had a
way of making people feel at ease, even someone as reserved as Sebastian.
“I heard from Alex that you once pretended to be a chef just to impress a girl,” Christiana said, her eyes
sparkling with mischief as she leaned slightly toward Sebastian.
Sebastian's ears turned a deep shade of red. “I was young, okay? And it wasn't just to impress her...| really
thought I could pull it off.”
“And did you?” she asked, her laughter light and contagious.
He shook his head, grinning despite himself. “Not at all. | almost burned her kitchen down.”
Christiana laughed so hard she had to wipe a tear from the corner of her eye. “That poor girl! But you know, you
should have told her the truth. Honesty goes a long way.”

Christiana picked up her fork, admiring the arrangement. “This looks almost too good to eat.”
“Almost,” | said with a smirk, slicing into one of my scallops. “But I'm not about to let this masterpiece go to
waste.”
Sebastian chuckled as he cut into his steak. “Alright, I'll admit...this is worth the overpriced menu.”
Christiana raised an eyebrow at him, her lips curving into a smirk. “Don’t let Alex hear you say that. He'll start
thinking you have expensive taste.”
“Start thinking?” | quipped, giving Sebastian a sideways glance. “Seb’s always had an expensive taste. He just
tries to hide it.”
We all laughed, and the ease in the air
was evident. Christiana took the lead

“She said it was my long neck,” | added dryly, earning another round of laughter.
As we polished off our meals, Christiana pushed her chair back and stood, her emerald gown shimmering under
the ambient light. “I'll be right back,” she said, brushing her hand lightly over my shoulder as she turned to
leave.
| watched her walk away, the sway of her dress hypnotizing. My gaze lingered for a moment before I turned back
to Sebastian, who had leaned closer, his expression unusually thoughtful.
“You know,” he began, his voice low, “if | ever met a woman like Christiana, I'd be head over heels. She's...
different. The kind of woman you'd want to change your ways for.”
| smirked, leaning back in my chair. “I can’t argue with that. But don’t admire her too much, Seb. She's my
woman and the mother of my children.”
Sebastian laughed, a rare sound but genuine. “Relax, Alex. I'm just saying-you’ve got something special there.
Hold on to it.”
“I plan to,” | said, my voice steady, leaving no room for doubt.
The air between us felt lighter, and we sipped our wine in comfortable silence, waiting for Christiana to return.

“Alexander,” she said sharply, her voice slicing through the soft hum of the restaurant.
| set my
wine glass down slowly, my jaw tightening as | met her gaze. “Mother,” | said evenly, keeping my tone as cold as
her glare.
